Cereals are a great alternative to a hot breakfast , particularly when you are In a rush and want breakfast on the go or when you don’t want to cook in the morning. Oats is considered healthy and heart friendly and granola is a crunchier version of oats. I recently decided to try and make my own granola at home and it turned out so good that I’m now sold on it . There’s no need anymore to buy expensive granola packs from the super market and the best part is that you can add your own choice of nuts and seeds . In this recipe I have not added chia seeds but in my next batch of granola, I plan to add them.

Ingredients :

  • 4 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 sunflower seeds
  • 2 tbsp flax seeds
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup honey or any sugar free syrup
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Method :

Preheat the oven to 150 degree centigrade. In a large bowl mix the oats and dry fruits and salt. Keep the raisins and cranberries aside. Mix oil and honey in a separate bowl and mix the dry and wet ingredients well together. Spread the mixture in a baking tray and put in oven for 40 minutes. After every 15 minutes stir the mixture well to ensure uniform baking. After 40 minutes bring out the tray and mix the raisins and cranberries. At this stage the granola will still be a bit soft and as it cools it will get crunchy. Allow it to cool completely and store in an airtight jar.
